China manufacturing PMI reaches 50.1 as production and input costs rise
September PMI rose 0.3 points to 50.1. Production improved, while the input-price index reached 60.8 and smaller manufacturers remained below the 50 threshold.

The story explained
The September 30 release puts manufacturing PMI at 50.1. Production rose 1.3 points to 51.7, while new orders slipped 0.1 point to 50.5. The production and demand components therefore did not move together.
Large-enterprise PMI was unchanged at 50.6. Medium and small enterprises improved to 49.7 and 48.9 respectively, remaining below 50. An aggregate survey cannot establish operating conditions for an individual valve or actuator manufacturer.
The input-price index increased from 56.6 to 60.8; the factory-gate price index rose from 50.4 to 54.0. These are diffusion indices describing survey responses, not percentage increases in materials prices, revenue or order value.
Why it matters
Editorial analysis: use the production reading to frame customer conversations about operating activity and maintenance. Test cost signals against actual material quotations and quote validity periods; neither the headline PMI nor its price components establish a specific equipment order.
