The story explained

Shell agreed to sell its 16.67% non-operated North West Shelf interest to XRG subsidiaries for a US$1.45 billion base consideration, with adjustments and a contingent milestone payment.

The interest includes upstream, pipeline and midstream assets and related agreements. Buyers would assume decommissioning obligations and provide security.

Declining original-field production has freed capacity at Karratha Gas Plant, supporting a transition toward a mix of resource production and third-party toll processing. This is not an equipment award.

Completion is expected in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions. The January 1, 2026 economic effective date does not mean ownership already transferred.
