The story explained

Beijing issued its hydrogen industry implementation plan on 30 October. Effective through 31 December 2030, it connects industrial hydrogen substitution, transport applications, storage and transport equipment, and shared testing facilities.

Targets for 2030 include more than 10,000 fuel-cell vehicles deployed cumulatively, over 40 refuelling stations and a city hydrogen industry chain exceeding RMB40 billion. The plan also seeks over 4GW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity. These are policy objectives, not reported operating capacity or sales.

The proposed Ulanqab–Beijing hydrogen pipeline has a planned capacity of 500,000 tonnes/year and length of approximately 1,059km. Design pressure is 6.3MPa and maximum operating pressure 5.72MPa, with 10 stations and 50 valve chambers. Phase one is designed for 100,000 tonnes/year, half allocated to Beijing. The 19km Beijing section in Fangshan includes one terminal station and three valve chambers.

A proposed liquid-hydrogen equipment platform would test pumps, valves, vehicle tanks and refuelling nozzles, including safety validation and failure analysis. The policy also addresses hydrogen-compatible materials and selection rules, but gives no equipment package awards or supplier contracts.

EDITORIAL INTERPRETATION

Why it matters

Editorial analysis: The policy connects equipment validation with infrastructure development. Suppliers can track testing and materials requirements, while procurement needs separate project evidence.
