China reports lower Q3 coal generation and 35 days of plant fuel stocks

China’s National Energy Administration released coal-power and winter-supply data on 2 November. Dispatched power plants held 210 million tonnes of coal on 25 October, averaging 35 days of supply.

Coal-fired generation fell year on year by 4.0% in July, 4.6% in August and 1.9% in September 2026. The release also reports a 49.1% coal-generation share at end-September without further defining that figure’s cumulative reporting interval.

At 25 October, Bohai Rim ports held 26.92 million tonnes, up 2.15 million tonnes year on year. Qinhuangdao accounted for 5.95 million tonnes, up 0.42 million. These are physical inventory statistics, not spot or futures prices.

Average plant stock coverage of 35 days was comparable with the preceding three-year average. The agency considers inventories supportive of winter supply. These national indicators do not establish maintenance budgets or equipment purchase orders at individual plants.
