The story explained

Emerson released fourth-quarter and full-year results on 4 November for the fiscal year ended 30 September 2026. This catch-up item retains the original announcement date. On a continuing-operations basis, annual net sales reached $18.982 billion, up 5% reported and 4% underlying.

Final Control, the segment relevant to valves and flow control, recorded annual sales of $6.194 billion, up 4% reported and 2% underlying. Fourth-quarter sales were $1.725 billion, with both growth measures at 5%. These are recognised sales, not newly announced equipment contracts.

Group underlying orders increased 14% in the quarter and 9% over the year; that metric excludes AspenTech. Underlying sales instead exclude currency translation and significant acquisitions and divestitures. The definitions differ, and group order growth cannot be attributed wholly to Final Control.

The initial FY2027 guidance issued on 4 November anticipates approximately 5% growth in both reported and underlying sales and operating cash flow of $4.3–4.4 billion. It assumes about $2.5 billion of share repurchases and $1.3 billion of dividends. This management forecast remains exposed to demand, currency, tariff and geopolitical risks.

EDITORIAL INTERPRETATION

Why it matters

Editorial analysis: Segment underlying growth is more specific to flow-control monitoring than group orders, but is not a direct measure of valve prices, unit volumes or orders available to outside suppliers.
