The story explained
Western LNG announced a binding sale and purchase agreement on 26 October under which SEFE will buy 1 million tonnes of LNG annually from Ksi Lisims for 20 years, with deliveries expected in the early 2030s.
The free-on-board agreement follows a heads of agreement signed in May 2026. Western LNG describes it as SEFE’s first agreement with a Canadian LNG supplier. The substantive change is the move from an initial commercial understanding to a binding SPA.
Binding contracts now cover 7 mtpa of the project’s planned 12 mtpa capacity. Preliminary agreements cover another 2 mtpa. Those preliminary volumes should not be combined with the binding portfolio as if they had the same contractual status.
The developer says full commercialization remains targeted for year-end. The release does not announce a final investment decision, construction start or equipment award. The expected delivery period also remains a future schedule, not evidence of current exports.
Why it matters
Long-term sales commitments support commercialization and may underpin future liquefaction, storage and cryogenic equipment demand. Specific procurement still requires investment and engineering milestones.
