Three nuclear projects enter proposed environmental approval consultation
The 21–27 October consultation covers construction-stage and siting-stage assessments; final approval remains separate.

The story explained
The environment ministry published proposed opinions for three nuclear projects on 21 October, following consideration on 15 October. Consultation closes on 27 October. Haiyang Units 5 and 6 envisage two CAP1000 reactors rated at 1,300 MWe each.
Xuwei Phase 1 Unit 3’s construction-stage assessment covers six high-temperature gas-cooled nuclear steam modules coupled to one turbine generator. Each reactor has 250 MW thermal capacity.
Huakun One is at the siting-assessment stage: a 200 MWt reactor platform, about 50 MWe output and a Taipingling maintenance base. This single consultation bulletin is not a construction licence or equipment award.
Why it matters
Editorial analysis: The reactor types imply different media, temperatures and safety classifications; valve qualification requirements cannot be treated as interchangeable.
